ACE-031 (also known as Ramatercept) is a recombinant fusion protein designed to increase muscle mass by inhibiting myostatin and related signaling proteins. It is not a traditional short-chain peptide but rather a soluble form of the activin receptor type IIB (ActRIIB), fused to the Fc portion of a human antibody (IgG1). This structure allows it to act as a decoy receptor, binding to circulating proteins that normally limit muscle growth.
Developed by biopharma companies Acceleron and Shire, ACE-031 was investigated as a potential treatment for muscle-wasting diseases but never reached market approval.
